Impulso Verde Building: a Revolution in Sustainable Construction
Read the featured articleThe Impulso Verde Building, a prominent architectural piece in Galicia, is leading the way towards a more sustainable and ecological future hand in hand with Garnica.
The Impulso Verde Building, built mostly using local wood, will be the centrepiece of the future Multi-Ecological District in the city of Lugo. This building represents significant progress in the fight against CO2 emissions, with 90% fewer emissions than conventional concrete and steel buildings, while also absorbing 280 tonnes of emissions.
Garnica participated in this project with our Fireshield Building panels, which form the roof of the building. Our Fireshield fire-rated plywood has an innovative treatment that gives it exceptional fire resistance, even after sanding or machining. With their Euroclass B-s1-d0 and ASTM E-84 Class A certifications, the highest for wood, these panels significantly reduce the rate of charring, smoke generation and flame spread, ensuring fire protection and safety. In addition, they are made entirely from high-quality, sustainably managed local wood.
The building was jointly financed by the European Union through the LIFE Lugo+Biodinámico programme, and by the Lugo Provincial Council, and its execution was entrusted to an enthusiastic team of professors and researchers from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), led by the coordinating architect, Dr Antonio José Lara Bocanegra.
Impulso Verde is the first building in Spain to be awarded FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) Project Certification, which guarantees that all the wood used in the construction is sourced from forestry operations managed according to strict environmental and social sustainability standards.
The Multi-Ecological District, which will house the Impulso Verde Building, is conceived as an urban village with a focus on social cohesion, respect for the environment and energy savings. The use of Spanish wood in this project is a clear example of how sustainable construction and harmony with nature can converge to create a more resilient and environmentally friendly future.
This cutting-edge project is a major development in the field of sustainable construction and the responsible use of natural resources. The company is proud to have contributed to a project that will change the outlook for construction in the city of Lugo and lay the foundations for a more ecological and environmentally friendly type of architecture.
