The Electraply - The Wooden e-bike

With raw materials sourced from Garnica, a leader in sustainable plywood, The ElectraPly was created in response to the recent rise in popularity of vintage bikes and as a reflection of the developer’s commitment to the environment.

DESIGN INSPIRATION

The design of The ElectraPly was inspired by the Yamaha SR250, a scrambler motorcycle (a lightweight bike specially designed for off-road motorcycling) which was described as the ‘perfect donor’ by BikeBound Magazine. Evie wanted to construct a version as close as possible to the Yamaha using environment-friendly raw materials. After an exhaustive search, Evie decided to construct the e-bike using Garnica’s Efficiency Poplar plywood due to its cost-effectiveness, light weight and unmatched strength.

PROJECT

Garnica’s Efficiency Poplar was the ideal choice for The ElectraPly for two main reasons: 
•    The company uses modern production methods 
•    It is durable, lightweight and easy to cut and sand

These two elements enabled Evie to produce a sustainable, strong, yet lightweight bike just as she had envisioned. 

RESULT

With growing technological innovations coupled with an increasing worldwide commitment to sustainability, e-bikes are now becoming an integral mode of transportation for many people around the world, especially in urban areas. According to Fortune Business Insights, the global e-bike market size was valued at US $16.86 billion (£14.57 billion) in 2020 and is expected to reach US $52.36 billion (£45.26 billion) by 2028. Additionally, Deloitte has projected that between 2020 and 2023, 130 million e-bikes will be sold worldwide!

Aligned with the vision of making the world more sustainable and environment-friendly, Evie and Garnica came together to develop ‘The ElectraPly’.
