An overview of Garnica ranges for architecture and design projects
Read the featured articleDuraply, Reinforced, Ultralight, and Fireshield address a particular need required by architecture and design. In this post, we give you an overview of the features of these Garnica lines.
Whether your architecture or design project is calling out for a plywood panel that is resistant to humidity, strong, lightweight, or fire retardant, Garnica has got the product for you. Every build comes with its very own set of specifications and our lines have been designed to meet each and every one of them. But how do you know which Garnica product meets your requirements? In this post, we’re going to take a look at four lines that cater to architecture and design briefs: Duraply, Reinforced, Ultralight, and Fireshield.
But before we get our teeth into the specifics, we’d like to underscore that Garnica is committed to looking after the natural world. Our plywood is manufactured from wood produced in fast-growing, sustainably managed tree farms located in Europe (France and Spain). The majority of our forests are of poplar, which has high CO2 sequestering powers both as a tree and as a panel. Some of our products are FSC® or PEFC certified, vouching for not only the sustainability of our forest management, but also the quality of the resulting wood. So let’s get to it, shall we?
Garnica Fireshield, fire-rated plywood
Challenging flames, Fireshield Building features an innovative treatment that provides 100% of the panel with exceptional resistance to fire, even after sanding and machining. The solution is not only highly resistant to contributing to fire, it also combats smoke opacity, and falling flaming particles.
Fireshield Building is an ASTM E-84 Class A, CAN/ULC S102-10 and B-S1-D0 fire rated plywood for construction, which is the highest certification available in fire resistance for wood. It’s ideal for indoor use in public construction projects, such as structures, floors, walls, ceilings, and even furniture.
Garnica Duraply, all-weather plywood
The Duraply line is – as its name suggests – an ultradurable plywood that has been especially designed for both outdoor and high-humidity environments. Incredibly resistant to challenging damp conditions, the core has received an innovative treatment to make it immune to attacks from fungi and xylophages, even after sanding or machining. This long-lasting treatment is vouched for with our fifteen-year warranty against delamination, fungus and xylophage insects.
Duraply is ideal for architectural applications including façades and roofs, structural construction, and outdoor furniture. Duraply panels are made from premium single piece core veneers that are easy to machine, virtually void-free with no telegraphing, with exceptional bond quality, flatness, and stability.
Garnica Reinforced, an alternative to Russian birch
The Garnica Reinforced range is an extraordinarily strong panel that makes an excellent alternative to Russian birch, which is currently facing international sanctions.
Reinforced Globulus Maple, which is a maple-faced mixed core plywood, is ideal for interior decorative applications. The exceptional surface quality, beautiful maple grain and multiply composition come together to make the perfect platform for wall and ceiling paneling, shopfitting, indoor furniture, and kitchen cabinets. No sanding or processing is required, and it’s strong: reinforced with eucalyptus globulus and poplar.
The line also includes poplar-faced mixed-hardwood core plywood, Reinforced Globulus Poplar LG, whose properties also make it ideal for painting or covering. Reinforced Globulus Poplar SG, however, is better suited to flooring supports, doors and frames, and sofa frames.
Garnica Ultralight, excellent heat insulation and sound-proofing
Ultralight is a sandwich panel that pairs an insulating XPS (extruded polystyrene) core with plywood faces to provide a durable yet lightweight platform. The panel promises excellent heat insulation and sound-proofing, as well as dimensional stability with exceptional modulus of elasticity and rupture.
As part of the Ultralight range, Ultralight Poplar is an excellent choice for applications including van conversions where every pound counts. If you’re looking for a version with laminate, we’ve got it: Ultralight Poplar HPL whose decorative HPL laminate finish not only looks beautiful, but is also highly resistant to impact and scratching.
Ideal for exterior uses, Ultralight Duraply is both light and resistant to humidity, as the plywood has been treated, as we mentioned above, with an innovative solution that makes it immune to attacks from fungi and insects. A laminated sandwich panel is also available in the range, Ultralight Duraply HPL.
If you operate in the architecture and design fields, Garnica’s Duraply, Reinforced, Ultralight, and Fireshield lines are sure to meet your requirements.
