Garnica participates in a sustainable construction workshop hosted by the University of La Rioja

“At Garnica, we are committed to the environment and sustainability,” said Garnica’s R&D Director, Juan Albiñana, in his talk

On Friday, October 21, Garnica participated in the Tenth Workshop on Sustainable Construction ‘Structural Wood and Sustainable Construction,’ hosted by the Department of Continuum Mechanics at the University of La Rioja's College of Engineering. This workshop focused on the importance of responsible professional work in contributing to sustainable economic development.

Garnica participated in a specialist talk led by Juan Albiñana, Garnica’s R&D Director, who focused on the “New Wood-based Construction Systems: SIP Panels (Structural Insulated Panels).”

“With more than 80 years in business, we are one of the largest companies in La Rioja and the largest exporter in the region. Garnica’s manufactured wood products are exported to more than 40 countries on every continent,” Albiñana noted. Garnica’s panels can be used in many applications: from building yachts and RVs to producing furniture, toys, and kitchens. “In addition to being committed to sustainability and the environment, at Garnica we also implement construction solutions,” the director stated in his talk, referring to G-Brick panels, structural, insulated sandwich panels with numerous applications.

During the talk, Juan Albiñana also spoke on the socioeconomic impact of the wood industry in areas of Spain where the population in decline (“Emptied Spain”). Our R&D Director concluded by stating, “Wood can be considered a sustainable and renewable material to decarbonize the economy,” alluding to the current and future challenges for wood-based construction.

The goal of the tenth Workshop on Sustainable Construction was raise awareness among students and current professionals in the construction industry of the need for responsible professional work to contribute to the creation of a sustainable economic development model and the role that wood can play in that scenario.
