The ‎6th Women’s Race for Cancer Research crossed the virtual finish line on Sunday 12 September with more than 8,000 participants. Again this year Garnica was rewarded for being the company with the highest number of employees taking part in the race.

The race is organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in La Rioja and this year the pandemic meant that there was also an option to participate virtually. In spite of the unusual circumstances, more than 8,000 athletes joined the “pink tide” and ran their own races through the streets of Logroño over several days.

The event is non-competitive but numerous awards were presented at a private ceremony held at the Logroño Town Hall. Just like last year, Garnica was rewarded for being the company with the greatest number of participants in the event.

Garnica has been supporting this event from the beginning and since last year we have been promoting and encouraging our staff to participate by subsidising the entry fee and running internal promotional campaigns. Our team responded enthusiastically and, with 70 employees, Garnica was the company with the most representatives.

In addition, the company has other initiatives within its Garnica Health project that promote healthy lifestyle habits among the members of the organisation including various initiatives that encourage participation in sports, healthy eating and making the most of rest periods and time off work.

As part of Garnica's social responsibility and support for the community, the company has reached an agreement with the University of La Rioja to finance annual scholarships that support talented university students in the region. Other work in this area includes a campaign by the company at the height of the pandemic to provide material to hospitals, health centres and care homes for the elderly.
