Recognized as a global leader in the plywood industry, at Garnica, we have been on a path to excellence since we were founded in 1941 in La Rioja, Spain. Our company is known for its unique production model that is based on sustainability and innovation, which has made us a benchmark in the smart management of natural resources and the manufacturing of exceptional solutions. We are strategically located in the main poplar farm basins in Europe and currently operate at six production sites, five of which are in Spain.
Our mission rests on wood from tree farms, which includes poplar, pine, and eucalyptus. This combination of farm-sourced wood and PEFC certification not only guarantees the quality of our products, but also reflects our commitment to respecting woodlands. With the backing of the PEFC label, our clients can be sure that their choices contribute to preserving forest resources and maintaining a balanced ecosystem.
Throughout our history, we have demonstrated a firm commitment to sustainability. Since receiving our PEFC chain of custody certification in 2004, we have maintained a consistent dedication to respecting woodlands and the responsible use of resources. Over the past two decades, PEFC certification has been an essential component of our growth and has featured in approximately half of our sales. For 16 years, from 2005 to 2021, we also administered a PEFC forestry management certificate for our poplar trees. Although we have now outsourced this function, we continue to be active defenders of sustainable forestry management throughout our supply chain.
We are proud of our goal of promoting renewable forest products, and the Program for the Endorsement of Forestry Certification (PEFC) has been a key tool in this effort to drive sustainable forest management and ensure the responsible origins of our products. We have established a clear link between raw materials and final products through the Chain of Custody Certification at all our facilities, which ensures the traceability and sustainability of our products.
As such, not only do we produce exceptional plywood, but we have also integrated sustainability into all aspects of our business. We have a daily commitment to quality, the environment, and workplace health and safety. From compliance with the legal requirements to seeking safe working conditions and promoting responsible forest management, we strive to use a sustainable model and make positive contributions to society.
Over the years, Garnica and PEFC have actively collaborated to promote sustainable forest management and poplar cultivation in Spain through numerous initiatives. Currently, both organizations are actively cooperating within the Biopoptech Task Force, a collaborative project dedicated to promoting poplar cultivation while simultaneously creating environmental and industrial value.
In a world where sustainability and innovation are more and more relevant, we want to continue to stand out as a global leader that not only manufactures exceptional products but also leads the way to a more responsible and sustainable future in the plywood industry.
