BASAJAUN is a European Commission project designed to bring together companies, organisations, associations and public bodies to promote wood construction by combining innovation and sustainability.
At Garnica we are always looking to the future. We are known for our commitment to innovation and the environment and, with these priorities in mind, we are developing new products with other partners through the BASAJAUN project. Backed by European funding, this project seeks to develop sustainable wood construction for rural development and urban transformation.
As part of the project, we are working on a new range of structural products made entirely from wood, which we have named “G-Brick Eco”. Its main advantage compared to conventional structural insulation panels is that it uses wood fibre insulation rather than extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam. Using local wood, “G-Brick Eco” is a decisive step towards more sustainable construction characterised by high levels of convenience and low environmental impact, while also supporting the circular economy.
But there’s more: a test building will also be built in France, using this new product in the roof and internal walls. Its behaviour will be monitored in situ over six months. Once it has access to data regarding the product’s performance, Garnica will embark upon marketing these “G-Brick Eco” panels.
The BASAJAUN project aims to bring together companies from the wood sector, research organisations, associations and public bodies to maximise the value of forests through their use in wood construction. The European Union has over 180 million hectares of forest covering 43% of its land area, making wood an important and highly sustainable forest product, particularly for rural communities. The project therefore focuses on the optimal use of wood resources from forests to build a four-storey apartment building, and also includes the digitalisation of the value chain, from the forest through to the completed building.
