BASAJAUN is a European Commission project that brings together companies, organizations, associations, and government agencies to promote wood-based construction, combining innovation and sustainability.
At Garnica, we are constantly looking to the future. We are distinguished by our commitment to innovation and the environment, and, in keeping with this commitment, we develop new products alongside other partners through the BASAJAUN project, supported by European funds, in the search for sustainable wood construction for rural development and urban transformation.
Specifically, in this project, we are working on a new range of structural products made entirely of wood, which we have named "G-Brick Eco." Its main advantage over the conventional structural insulated panel is that the XPS foam—extruded polystyrene—has been replaced by wood insulated fiber. By using local wood, "G-Brick Eco" is a significant step towards more sustainable structures characterized by a high level of comfort and a low environmental impact, which promote a circular economy.
But there's more as a test building will also be built in France using this new product in the roofing and interior walls, and its performance will be monitored on-site for six months. Once the performance outcome is known, Garnica will begin marketing these "G-Brick Eco" panels.
The BASAJAUN project aims to bring together companies from the wood industry, research organizations, and public associations and government agencies to maximize the value of forests by using them in wood-based construction. The European Union has more than 180 million hectares of forest that cover 43% of its land, which makes wood a significant and highly sustainable lumber product, especially for rural communities. Therefore, the project focuses optimally using wood products from forests to build a four-story apartment building and, additionally, includes the digitization of the value chain from the forest to the finished building.
